About

Supreme Ultra

The farm is currently farmed by the Thompson Family Ian and his son Michael, work full time on the farm and trade under the name TT Thompson & Son. The farm-steading is located in the dunes between Blyth and Seaton Sluice on the A193.

Ian’s grandfather took over the tenancy of Gloucester Lodge in 1947 on Lord Hastings estate around Delaval Hall.

The farm houses approximately 80 head of beef cattle, 23 horses and arable land of approximately 140 hectares. Barley, haylage and straw grown on the farm is used to feed and bed the cattle throughout the year with very little if any outside produce bought in, however if done so it is sought locally.

Horses have always been an integral part of farm life. Ian and his wife Anne run the livery side and have both ridden since childhood. As a junior Ian attended Morpeth Hunt Pony Club and competed at County and National showing level on ponies until he went to agricultural college in the 1960’s. Ian and Anne are horse owners, both still ride and compete regularly at British Eventing and Dressage events.

Ian and Anne both have BHS qualifications in Equitation and Welfare and have a wealth of experience in horse and stable management

In 2002 after FMD the farm was awarded a DEFRA diversification grant to build a cross country course around the fields. The first Cross Country Course was built by Steve Tock then later in 2017 rebuilt by Peter Wilson both are British Eventing Course Builders. The course has three heights running around one track from 60cms, 75cms and 90cms. The yard also has a floodlit 20 x 40 all-weather school. There is an abundance of off road hacking on the doorstep.

The farm holds regular equestrian events including Training Days, Hunter Trials, One Day Events and Shows. A number of top level instructors teach at the yard weekly and monthly.

Ian also runs a Horse Ambulance which is available for emergency and routine vet visits, events and road rescue. The vehicle is fully insured, fitted with CCTV and Satnav.
